Staying CF Strong:
A support hub for the Cystic Fibrosis community

Challenge

Cystic Fibrosis Community Care (CFCC) were seeking a way to meet the changing needs of the growing adult CF community. Due to the wide and varied service and support networks for CF, there was limited centralised access to deep and specific CF information, resources, and insight into the lives of others living with CF in Australia. CFCC wanted to create a central platform for information sharing with relevant content for themselves and their professional and peer support networks.

Aim

CF Strong website would be a new extension of the existing CFCC website, aiming to become “the online information portal for Australian adults living with CF.” It would be a welcoming, engaging, informative and interactive online resource full of stories, information, and advice. The portal provides the CF community with a proud space to share authentic content, gain knowledge and find strength through camaraderie.

Idea

Born from the singular idea of ‘connectivity’ the design began to be built around a continual line illustration allowing the brand identity to inclusively represent age, gender, and lifestyle. The subtle use of light & warm people photography was evolved from, and links back to the main CF website and evoked a calm and nurturing sense of self. By excluding harsh edges and definitive straight lines the true warm and inclusive nature of the CF community could be expressed.

Experience

It was important for the new resource portal to cater for a wide demographic, from teens who are becoming adults, to a growing number of 40/50yr+ adults who are looking for ongoing support.

The CF community is one that is builds strength through supporting each other. The design approach, which uses interconnected line illustrations reflects how the platform is connecting people within the community and creating strength through fellowship.

The design brief was for a simple, yet sophisticated information platform that supports multiple media platforms including video, podcasting and articles.

Since launch, the company has constantly received positive feedback particularly in the way stakeholders talk about the business and its service offerings.

Outcomes

The CFStrong project has delivered a comprehensive website covering topics and content relevant to Australian adults living with CF.

The website is packed full of resources, stories and advice collected from many people with CF from all over Australia. CFStrong covers a huge range of topics on key life transitions, social, emotional and medical issues, and much more. The platform is ultimately assisting adults living with CF with having a better life experience, while engaging the CF community to create authentic content on an ongoing basis.

 

 

Looking forward, CFStrong is growing further to build specific sections to different audiences so everyone living with CF can have one central location that can be filtered to meet their specific needs.

In addition to rich content, educational tools were created with eLearning modules, podcasts and new videos which cover a variety of topics for family, friends, employers, tertiary providers and sporting clubs, to provide knowledge and confidence to those in CF support networks.
